The season looms.......
So, the road season has pretty much passed me by. Racing continuously from February to January last year obviously took its toll and left me mentally exhausted going into this year's spring. I don't think I'll try that one again in a hurry.
As I sit here writing this, I know that in about six hours time I should be riding the YCF30 on a rolling, sporting course. Somehow, I've managed to enter an event right in the middle of a planned mid season break to chase a series that I can win nor get excited about.
In a peculiar way, I feel that this season has been a turning point for me. It's taken a long time to learn but actually I need to start thinking about what and when I ride as suddenly the training is feeling easy but the racing can feel a bind if I'm not careful.
Please don't take me wrong. I'm fit, I've done the work, I'm training on the hilly roads of Nidderdale faster than some people race flat 25's. I feel I've got real fire in my belly, but I've simply had enough of chasing season long competitions for the sake of it for the time being.
So going into the cross season, I'm excited as ever, especially with my new sponsors....but I really feel that I want to go back in time a little and enjoy my cross racing for what it is, that is thrashing around an exciting circuit and treating each race in complete isolation. For this reason, I will be delaying the start of cyclocross until October.
I'm very much thinking about a good crack at an Ironman triathlon next year, hence the last thing I need is jaded resolve going into spring 2014.
