Sun 30th January 2011

6hrs 17mins.....doesn't sound like a lot does it? Not a lot of training you'd think. But this is just about a perfect week for me at this time of year. A couple of 2hr rides at a brisk pace, a couple of shorter rides smashing it on the big ring. For a January, it doesn't get any better than this. Anything more just tires me out and doesn't mean I can really go at it when I do get out.
The Garmin 500 has been a revelation, I was sceptical about it but the ability to get exactly the information I want on one screen and come the warmer weather I'll be able to really get into the zone for the mid week rides.
Punctures, more bloody punctures. And again it's a faulty inner tube.
It was great to see my teammate Craig out on the road today, and yet again I marvelled at his natural talent. In 30odd years of cycling I've never seen another rider with the ability to change pace so quickly. He's almost Contador like (without the Clenbutenol). He can be climbing at 16MPH and accelerate to 25MPH in the space of about 3 seconds!!
Next week brings the first test of 2011, albeit an unofficial one that doesn't count for anything.....The YCF Reliabilty Trial. I'll be deliberately missing the group start so as to give me two and a half hours on the rivet solo. No wheelsucking and then being a hero in the last ten miles for me. I cannot wait to see my pals at Norwood for a brew and a sticky bun but just need to avoid falling asleep in my dinner like I did last year.

Please God, let it warm up so my fingers don't hurt any more.

Happy Days, roll on the racing.
